Ghost in the Shell ending explained (spoilers)



  • A woman (Scarlett Johansson) is involved in an accident and has her brain implanted into a cyborg body to be part of an anti-terrorism force. She becomes The Major and is a highly effective fighter.

    A hacker threatens members of Hanka Robotics, the company that built The Major, as well as her team Section 9. The hacker, Kuze (Michael Pitt), is a former test subject of Hanka's that produced failed results. He lets The Major know that Hanka stole her memories and are using her for their own personal gain.

    Hanka's CEO Cutter tries to eliminate The Major, but her designer, Dr. Ouelet (Juliette Binoche), gives The Major an address to her old home before she is killed by Cutter. The Major reunites with her mother, but she doesn't recognize her daughter at first.

    Cutter sends his men to kill off Section 9 members, but The Major and his team defeat them while Kuze is killed. Section 9's Chief Aramaki (Takeshi Kitano) kills Cutter after learning he killed Ouelet.

    The Major has the answers she needs and she continues to work with Section 9.

  • Major Kusanagi follows the Puppet Master to an old warehouse. He is protected by an armored tank, and after fighting with it the Major climbs on top and rips her arms off trying to open it. Batou shows up and diasbles the tank. They find the puppet master and the Major dives inside, and just before military snipers destroy both bodies the Puppet Master and the Major merge into one being. One of the heads is shot off and they survive inside it. Batou finds her a new body and brings her back to his house, then lets her go. It ends with her saying Where does the newborn go? The net is vast and infinite...

  • Wanderer is a part of a race of aliens called Souls that inhabit the human race to take over their bodies. Her ldquo;hostrdquo; is a young woman named Melanie who was captured and healed after attempting to kill herself to keep from being inhabited by a Soul. Wanderer breaks away from her fellow Souls and is taken by some remaining humans, including Melaniersquo;s uncle, Jeb. Unbeknownst to many, Wanderer (later named ldquo;Wandardquo;) and Melanie share the same body, which leads to conflicts. Melanie was deeply in love with Jared, one of the remaining humans, who soon realizes that she still exists, but is sharing her body with Wanda. Meanwhile, Wanda beings to fall in love with another human named Ian.

    Wanda and Jared steal medicine from the Souls and heal Melaniersquo;s brother, Jamie. When the Seeker, a Soul who has been aggressively looking for Wanda, comes after her, Jeb shoots the Seeker in the shoulder and captures her. Wanda shows Doc how to extract the Soul from the human host. She releases the Soul in a pod she stole when stealing the medicine. The host the Seeker had occupied wakes up and tells Wanda that the Seeker went after her because she knew that Wanda was aware the humans could fight against the Souls.

    Wanda asks Doc to remove her from Melaniersquo;s body and kill her- she no longer wants to steal free will from anyone. Melanie has come to love Wanda like a sister and protests, but Wanda insists. She lies down and has a last conversation with Melanie before closing her eyes. She awakens a month later in a new body- Doc has successfully extracted dozens of Souls from humans, and the body they gave Wanda did not wake up from after extracting the Soul and she started to die, so Doc placed Wanda inside the new body. Wanda kisses Ian.

    Months later Wanda, Ian, Melanie, and Jared drive through the city and get pulled over by a Soul. It is revealed that he is working with the humans as well, and was not aware that there were any other Souls who ldquo;changed sides.rdquo;

  • When the park family opens fire on the beast whilst its drinking rainwater, Hie-bong is swatted onto the concrete. When the monster returns to its lair to finds See-joo/Seju and Hyun-seo trying to escape it re-captures them, storing then in its gob before going looking for a new hiding place. Kang-du overhears that the virus is bogus, just bull spread around by the american forces in order to ensure no mutations have been spread to any humans, plus giving them an excuse to use one of their new chemical weapons. Kangs overhearing, ensures hes all but labotomized by the surgeons, he bluffs his way out of quarrantine and rejoins up with his sister, Nam-ju and younger brother Nam-il. Agent yellow is used on the monster who spews up See-joo/Seju and Hyun-seo, but still kepps going so the three sibling between them finish it off. First by tricking it into mistaking petrol for water (So as it stops for a drink they douse it in the stuff), Nam-ju shoots it in the eye with a blazing arrow, stumbling to leap in the river, Kang blocks its path and impales it through its open gob with signpost pole (using it like a makeshift spear), dying it collapses on its side dead...but its got the last laugh since Hyun-seo has suffocated/been crushed while inside it. She hasnt died in vain as See-joo/Seju is succsessfully resusicatated by Kang as his siblings craddle their now dead neice. Cut to the winter and Kang is now back at his store, taking care of See-joo/Seju inbetween patrolling the water front with a rifle...looking to see if there are any other mutants dwelling beneath the deep.

  • Patrick Swayze uses Whoopi Goldberg to convince his girlfriend Demi Moore that he was murdered. He was set up to be murdered by his friend Tony Goldwyn and his accomplice. The two bad guys die and go to hell. Patrick Swayze has one last dance with Demi Moore to Unchained Melody and then he goes to heaven.
