They were first supposed to film in Ohio, but the tax incentives fell through; then they were prepared to film in Selma, Alabama, before finding the locations in Tuscaloosa. Facinelli said that Tuscaloosa "was the most beautiful one out of all three, even nicer than the one in Ohio. So somehow, God kept giving us these little gifts along the way."
