This animated film was to be helmed by Pete Burness, who was a director on UPA's Mr. Magoo theatrical cartoons, produced for Columbia between 1949 and 1959. Burness resigned after disagreements with producer and UPA owner Stephen Bosustow. Jack Kinney, who directed many of Walt Disney's Donald Duck cartoons, became the final choice to helm the film.
