The soundtrack features a piece of music by Ron Goodwin entitled "The Schickel Shamble" (which accompanies many of Gert Fröbe's scenes). This was later used as the theme for the BBC radio show "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" which featured William Rushton among the panellists.

The name Sir Percy Ware-Armitage was a reference to the male member (Percy) and a then-leading company which produced bathroom porcelain products (Armitage-Ware - now Armitage Shanks) - including urinals.

Besides the studio work at the Dino De Laurentiis Cinematografica Studios, Rome and Lazio, Italy, principal photography took place from 31 March to May 1968 in: England, Paris, France, Monaco, Monte Carlo, Monte Gelato Falls, Treja River, Italy and Are, Jamtlanss Ian, Sweden. Most of the exotic locations were from the second-unit directors while studio process shots mainly inserted the lead actors into the scenes.

The film was originally intended to be called Rome or Bust. The American distributors Paramount Pictures re-titled it Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies to tie it to director Annakin's 1965 film Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. Re-editing also meant cuts, up to a half-hour, from the original UK release.

This followup to Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes (1965) had the same director (Ken Annakin), writers (Jack Davies and Annakin), composer (Ron Goodwin), and five actors. Terry-Thomas played the son of his character in the earlier movie, and Eric Sykes' character was again an employee of Terry-Thomas'. Gert Fröbe, William Rushton, and Michael Trubshawe played unrelated roles.
