Unless more are made in the future, this is the only onscreen adaptation in which Barnabas Collins does not bite Willie Loomis (though Barnabas does hypnotize him into becoming his servant). It is also the only screen adaptation in which Barnabas is not released from his chained coffin by Willie, and the only one in which Barnabas bites Dr. Julia Hoffman. In the original series, Dr. Hoffman was bitten by two different vampires, but never Barnabas.

Also Barnabas' age of six years on leaving Liverpool (end credits) plus one year, plus fifteen years, equals twenty-two years, when he was propositioned by Angelique. Early press releases state that the family left Liverpool in 1752.
